Kylie Carlson, owner and director of the Wedding and Event Institute (WEI), has created a unique competition that combines the use of the new social media tool Pinterest with the blockbuster smash movie, The Hunger Games.
The contest will pit the design talents of 12 aspiring wedding planners, stylists or designers against one another in a virtual Pinterest arena. Their task will be to produce a mood board and concept for a fictitious bridal couple who have requested The Hunger Games as their theme.
“We know that we will see Hunger Games inspired weddings in 2012-2013 and there are many inspirations that can be drawn from it,” says Carlson. “One of the main jobs of a wedding planner, stylist or designer is to come up with concepts and designs based on the requirements of our clients, however unusual they might be. Our own personal taste shouldn’t come into it. And this can sometimes be a challenge. It’s an issue we address all the time within our WWI courses as we are training wedding professionals for a successful future.”
Entries for The Wedding Games opened on April 13 for seven days only. At the end of the seven days, 12 competitors will be chosen and assigned to a district. Each Tribute will be interviewed and profiled on its own dedicated page hosted on the Wedding and Event Institute Website.
Voting will be open to the public via a web poll on the site. Just as in the games, the Tributes will need to do their bit to gain awareness and get support from the public in whatever way they can. They will have just one week to rally sponsors and get votes. At the end of that week the two Tributes with the highest number of public votes will be put through to an esteemed judging panel headed up by renowned event designer Sasha Souza. The victor of The Wedding Games will be announced on May 1st 2012 and awarded with:
